Client: Daraz Nepal

Daraz Nepal is one of the leading e-commerce platforms in the country, facilitating online shopping and digital transactions. As a rapidly growing company, its headquarters in Kathmandu required a well-planned Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Firefighting (MEPF) system to support seamless operations, ensure energy efficiency, and maintain a safe working environment.

Scope of Work

The project involved the design, installation, and commissioning of an integrated MEPF system, which included:

  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) System
  • Electrical Systems
  • Plumbing Systems
  • Firefighting Systems

Each of these components was carefully designed to meet the operational needs of Daraz’s headquarters while ensuring sustainability, energy efficiency, and compliance with Nepal’s safety regulations.

1. HVAC System

To provide an optimal indoor environment for Daraz’s employees and operations, we implemented a Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) system, which is a highly efficient and flexible HVAC solution.

Key Features of the VRF System:

  • Zoned Temperature Control: The system allows different areas of the office to maintain different temperatures based on occupancy and usage, ensuring comfort while minimizing energy waste.
  • Energy Efficiency: VRF technology is known for its ability to adjust refrigerant flow precisely, reducing power consumption and leading to lower operational costs.
  • Heat Recovery Functionality: The system can simultaneously cool some zones while heating others, optimizing energy use.
  • Smart Controls and Automation: The system is integrated with advanced sensors and smart thermostats, allowing automated control and monitoring to maintain efficiency.
  • Low Noise Operation: Ensures a quiet and comfortable working environment, which is essential for office spaces.

2. Electrical System

A robust electrical infrastructure was crucial to support Daraz’s extensive IT and operational requirements. The electrical system included:

Power Distribution Network:

  • A well-structured electrical distribution system was designed to ensure stable power supply across all office areas.
  • High-quality circuit breakers and distribution boards were installed to prevent overloads and electrical hazards.

Backup Power Solutions:

  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS): Ensures continuous power supply to critical systems such as servers, networking equipment, and security systems in case of minor outages.
  • Generators: A high-capacity generator was installed to provide backup power during extended electricity failures, ensuring business continuity.

Lighting System:

  • LED lighting solutions were used for energy efficiency and long-term sustainability.
  • Motion sensors and daylight harvesting technology were integrated to optimize lighting usage.

Surge Protection:

  • To safeguard sensitive equipment from voltage fluctuations, surge protectors were incorporated into the system.

3. Plumbing System

A well-structured plumbing system was essential for ensuring hygienic water supply and efficient drainage. The key components of the plumbing system included:

  • Water Supply System: Designed to provide clean and continuous water for drinking, restrooms, and other office facilities.
  • Drainage and Wastewater Management: Proper piping and drainage systems were installed to ensure efficient waste disposal.
  • Water Conservation Measures: Low-flow fixtures were installed to minimize water consumption, supporting Daraz’s sustainability initiatives.

4. Firefighting System

Safety was a major priority for the project, and a comprehensive firefighting system was installed to protect employees and assets from fire hazards.

Fire Safety Installations:

  • Smoke Detectors: Installed throughout the office to detect smoke at an early stage and trigger alarms.
  • Fire Sprinkler System: Automatic sprinklers were strategically placed to quickly control and suppress fires.
  • Fire Hydrants and Hose Reels: Positioned at accessible locations for immediate firefighting response.
  • Emergency Exit Signage and Lighting: Clearly marked exits with backup lighting were provided to guide employees in case of emergencies.
  • Fire Alarm System: Integrated with the smoke detectors to provide real-time alerts to employees and emergency responders.

Project Impact and Benefits

1. Enhanced Operational Efficiency

  • The VRF system provided precise temperature control, ensuring a comfortable work environment and boosting employee productivity.
  • A reliable electrical infrastructure eliminated disruptions due to power failures.

2. Reduced Energy Costs

  • The energy-efficient VRF system and LED lighting solutions significantly lowered energy consumption, reducing operational costs.
  • Smart automation and sensor-based controls optimized resource usage.

3. Improved Safety and Compliance

  • The advanced firefighting system ensured that Daraz’s headquarters met Nepal’s fire safety regulations, protecting employees and assets.
  • The structured plumbing and electrical systems minimized maintenance issues and enhanced building sustainability.

Conclusion

The successful implementation of the MEPF systems at Daraz Headquarters in Kathmandu demonstrated a seamless integration of technology, sustainability, and safety. The project provided Daraz with a modern and efficient infrastructure to support its growing business needs while prioritizing employee comfort and safety.
